As part of a monthlong campus observance of Black History Month, Iowa Central Activities will be hosting an evening of dialogue with KD Wilson.

Wilson, a nationally acclaimed educator, author and speaker will bring his “And Still We Rise” Empowerment Tour to the Student Resource Center on the Iowa Central campus at 7 p.m. Monday February 13.

During the presentation, Wilson will discuss with attendees lesser known facts about African-American contributions while charging them to self-examine their perception of black history.

“We're going to open up real dialogue about the value of unification while exploring the history and significant contributions by African Americans in America,” Wilson said of the program.

Wilson also promotes empowerment to see the value of diversity and inclusion. He said the goal purpose of the tour is to have meaningful dialogue on leadership and determine why we are better than apart.

“We're going to open up honest conversation about black history, social perception, misinformation, and unknown facts,” said Wilson. “All of that being relevant to understanding the value of people as a whole. While it is a celebration for people of color, the goal is for it to become a celebration for all people as we begin to truly value one another as a unified front.”

Wilson’s program is one of several events taking place throughout campus in February. Other Black History Month activities include a diversity scavenger hunt in the Student Resource Center, a photography exhibit by Iowa Central photography students and a Black History Month Concert presented by the Vocal Music Department on February 17.
